These later served as the basis for his Uncle Remus and Brer Rabbit stories. During Reconstruction, he worked at several Southern newspapers, eventually becoming a journalist at the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, where he remained for nearly twenty-five years. During his time in Atlanta (1876-1908), Harris published several volumes of Uncle Remus and Brer Rabbit stories (as well as other works), which quickly became bestsellers.
